Premier League, Soccer | Pogba gave away clumsy penalties when United lost to Arsenal

Manchester United are yet to win at home in the Premier League this season.

MANCHESTER UNITED – ARSENAL 0-1:

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s 100th game as Manchester United manager ended in a 0-1 loss at home to Arsenal, and United are left with a poor point in the first four home games of the season in the Premier League.

With two wins away from home so far, he is currently ranked 15th in the Premier League, of course well below Manchester United’s standards.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick in the second half after Paul Pogba clumsily tackled Hector Bellerin inside the area.

This was Pogba’s third penalty kick after Ole Gunnar Solskjær took over as Manchester United manager. The Frenchman now has his passport endorsed.

– That’s a very awkward entry. Pogba is in no condition to make that entry, former United striker Dion Dublin told the BBC.

Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst was also unimpressed.

– That sums up Pogba in his own penalty area. He is a danger to his own team. He has now given away three penalty kicks since football resumed, Luckhurst wrote on Twitter.

Paul Pogba himself had this to say in an interview broadcast on TV 2 after the game.

– I don’t think we were good enough today. I don’t know what happens to us at home in the League. We are better than this and we must prove it. I must be better than what I did in that penalty, I cannot give away such penalties. And we have to create more chances to win the game, because we weren’t good enough in the last half.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær was also not happy with what he saw of his students.

– We didn’t show up until the first round. The intensity and pace weren’t there and they were better than us. They created some useful opportunities. In the second half, it didn’t seem like they were going to score, except for the penalty. We played better in the second half, but we have to present ourselves with more intensity, Solskjær tells Sky Sports.

Of course, the Norwegian was also asked to comment on the criminal situation.

– Stand there. The kid is coming out of the penalty area, and Paul knows it is a cheap penalty to give away. Like the one who almost punished Nemanja. There is more contact there than Paul does, but there is another discussion, says Solskjær.

Arsenal better before the break

In a relatively poor first half, where Thomas Partey dictated much of the guest play, it was Arenal who came closest to scoring.

First it was Arsenal who tried from the right side after a quarter of an hour of play. After 70 minutes, Hector Bellerin sent the corner kick to the right of Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang, who headed hard over the goalkeeper.

In the middle of the first half, it was the turn of the locals to threaten the rival goal. Marcus Rashford hit an excellent pass to Mason Greenwood, who with an oblique shot finished just above Berd Leno.

Five minutes before the break, Willian picked up the ball from the right, played walls with Aubameyang, before hitting the crossbar and over with his left leg.

A clumsy tackle was the difference

At the beginning of the second half, a misunderstanding between Fred and Scott McTominay led to a farling counterattack from Arsenal. Alexandre Lacazette found Aubameyang, who ended up right outside.

Soon after, it was Harry Maguire who had a great opportunity to lead United up front after a well-hit free kick from Luke Shaw.

However, it was at the opposite end where the goal should come, on a penalty kick, after Pogba’s awkward defeat. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent David De Gea and Arsenal up 1-0 badly.

Next assignment for Ole Gunnar Solskjær and company. he will now meet with Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday. This weekend, Everton await Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Arsenal, meanwhile, host Molde in the Europa League on Thursday, ahead of Aston Villa’s turn in the Premier League on Sunday.
