(Stavanger Oilers-Frisk Asker 1-2) Anders Bastiansen (40) proves that age is just a number. The healthy veteran celebrated his 40th birthday with a 2-1 win over Stavanger Oilers.
– A decent celebration. And right now I feel like my body is better than five years ago when I had a lot of back pain, Bastiansen tells VG.
– How long can it last?
– I take one year at a time, but I also have a contract next season. So it’s about avoiding injury. Of course, it is not optimal to have injuries at my age, but the body feels very good now.
Series champion Oilers has had a cruel fall thus far and the turning point did not come against reigning Norwegian champion Frisk Asker.
Bastiansen, 40, had an assist when Thomas Valkvæ Olsen (27) gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 1st period, then it was 2-0 by Hampus Gustafsson in the 2nd period. He broke off an Oilers attack himself, Endre Medby hit the post and Gustafsson made the return in goal.
Anders Bastiansen is in his sixth season after returning to Frisk Asker. Before that, he was in Färjestad, where he won two Swedish Championship gold medals and in 2011 he was named MVP of the playoffs.
