– I’d probably prefer the 40 million to be spent on a midfielder, says former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær seems to have turned things around again after a tough start to the season, where 1-6 at Tottenham’s home was the last point in early October.
Manchester United have since crushed Newcastle, played a draw against Chelsea and beat both RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

– Solskjær obviously thinks he’s not the right man.
In the midst of recovery, midfielder Donny van de Beek has been a hot topic of conversation, the entire time the new acquisition has been placed on the bench.
Patrice Evra and Marco van Basten are among those who have claimed that the Dutchman and Manchester United appear to be a bad match.
Although Solskjær responded strongly to the remarks and used the former Ajax player early on in the meeting with Leipzig midweek, Jamie Redknapp is still unproven.
– He is a talent, and we have seen him when he has played for the Netherlands and Ajax, but Solskjær sees him day after day in training. If a player is good enough, he plays regularly. Obviously, Solskjær thinks he’s not the right man for the team yet. Maybe he’s not fit enough or isn’t showing enough training, says Redknapp on the Sky Sports Football Podcast.
– I’d probably rather have a midfielder
The former Liverpool and Tottenham player believes Solskjær regrets the purchase, which cost Manchester United £ 40m.
– The problem is where it should play. It’s very difficult for Solskjær, and I’d probably rather not have it if I want to be completely honest. I’d probably prefer the $ 40 million to be spent on a midfielder, a place where they’re definitely struggling, says Redknapp.

Compare Van de Beek’s situation with Fabinho’s when he first arrived at Liverpool.
– Jurgen Klopp didn’t use it, but there was no focus on that because they did so well and they had a lot of other good players. Liverpool had that luxury, but Manchester United did not. If he were in Liverpool, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but since it’s United, and they’ve struggled, everyone will see, Redknapp believes.
Sun with clear speech
Earlier this week, Ole Gunnar Solskjær had this to say to critics, who think United and van de Beek are a bad match:
– Donny will play a big role this year. I understand that he is the topic of conversation at this time. It’s good that some former players and commentators are reporting a bit.
– I understand that you have little time on television and you should get to the point quickly, but you should know that you do not have to start the first three games to be an important part of the stable, Solskjær continued.
Manchester United meet Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday at 5.30pm.
