Police have opened an investigation to find out what happened when a one-year-old boy from Bærum died in Syria in 2014. The suspect is believed to have died.
After a woman accused of terrorism in interrogation recounted how the child died after being abused by a Norwegian foreign fighter, police are now opening an investigation, reports NRK.
The boy died in November 2014, shortly after his mother took him to Syria. Another Islamic State woman who was questioned earlier this year explained that the boy was repeatedly beaten before he died.
– We have created a case to find out what happened to the child, if he has been exposed to something criminal and if anyone can be held responsible for this, Police Inspector Tina Bjarkø Helleland tells NRK.
The foreign fighter accused of the attacks is a man who the police believe has lost his life. The boy’s mother is detained in a camp in Syria. The police will consider an international investigation and analyze whether anyone other than the alleged deceased can be held responsible for the death.
