Marcus Rashford has been awarded the MBE from the British Order of Knights for his efforts to secure food for school children.

– I feel incredibly honored and humbled. When I was a young black man from Wythenshawe, I never thought I would get an MBE. And at least not an MBE at the age of 22, the Manchester United striker said in a statement.

– This is a very special moment for me and my family, and especially for my mother, who is really the one who deserves the award, he continues.

Before the summer, Rashford managed to persuade the British government to make a 180 degree turn in its school feeding program during the coronavirus shutdown.

This ensured that children in need also received food during the summer.

In hindsight, the English national team player has also created a task force against child poverty and brought some of the UK’s largest food chains into the team.

In September, Rashford received an award from the PFA, the English Players Union, for his efforts.

In connection with receiving the award, Rashford emphasizes that the fight against child poverty is not over.

– The fight to protect our most vulnerable children is far from over. “I would not do all I could for my community and the families that I have met and spoken with if I do not take this opportunity to ask the Prime Minister, who recommended this award to me, to also support our children until October,” he said.
