(Everton 4-2 Brighton & Hove Albion) Not even the goalkeeper’s nasty loss and Richarlison’s injury could stop Everton at home to Brighton, who clinched the top of the table after the club’s best start to the season since 1894.

Last week Everton copied their best start to the season in Premier League history with their third win in a row, and on Saturday they posted their fourth straight home win against Brighton. It is the sixth time in the club’s history that they have won the first four league games in a season, something they last achieved in the 1969/1970 season, which ended with league gold for the Merseyside Blues.

Now they are alone at the top of the table in the Premier League, but both Leicester and city rivals Liverpool can overtake Everton with a win on Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team has won the first seven games of this season in all tournaments, something they have not achieved since 1894 (!).

In the next round, Liverpool wait at home at Goodison, a team Everton have not won since winning the league game at home at Goodison in October 2010.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (23) has been in brilliant form this season, and the Englishman continued the great game at home against Brighton & Hove Albion.

After just over a minute, he had a great opportunity, but Brighton goalkeeper Matt Ryan fell quickly and pushed the shot away.

A quarter of an hour later, however, there was nothing he could do when Calvert-Lewin climbed onto the back post and headed into Gylfi Sigurdsson’s post.

The goal was his sixth in the Premier League this season, and his ninth overall this season after the midweek hat trick in the Carabao Cup match against West Ham.

Brighton drew four minutes before half-time after a big mistake by Jordan Pickford’s goalkeeper, but the home team still went into half-time up front after a Colombian goal in extra time. James Rodríguez scored a 30-meter free kick on target in the 16th minute. 4 – 0 for the hosts, and Yerry Mina appeared just right near the post and drove it over the goalkeeper.

After the break, it was mainly Rodriguez, who made it 3-1 and 4-1. The Colombian wisely waited for the back post both times, and easily managed both of Everton’s goals in the second half. In extra time, Yves Bissouma reduced to 4-2 after a good shot from 20 meters, but it was too little, too late, and Everton took their fourth victory this season.
