The Supreme Court of Ireland has ruled that the bread sold by the fast food chain Subway has so much sugar that it cannot be called bread.
The High Court reached this conclusion when it dealt with a tax dispute between the company that operates the brand in Ireland and the state. Subway believes that the sandwiches they sell do not generate VAT claims.

However, the Supreme Court does not agree with this, affirming that the bread of the sandwiches contains so much sugar that it does not enter the regulations of the main foods, as bread is categorized.
– There is no doubt that the bread that Subway uses in its hot sandwiches has a sugar content of ten percent of the flour content of the dough, thus exceeding the two percent limit, the ruling establishes.

Therefore, the court believes that bread for Subway should be considered more like a sweet.
Subway has more than 38,000 outlets around the world, 47 of which are in Norway.
