Tom Cruise’s team was among the volunteers who helped when a large fire broke out in a residential complex in Åndalsnes. One person is now charged in connection with the fire.
34 people were evacuated and 37 were left homeless after the fire in a residential complex in Åndalsnes on Thursday morning. Two people were lightly burned or affected by the smoke, Møre og Romsdal police said.
On Thursday night, police attorney Knut Meek Corneliussen informs VG that a person has been arrested and charged in connection with the fire.
– The person is accused of violating the Law of fires and explosions, he says.
The city has long been visited by Tom Cruise and a great film crew who shot Mission: Impossible 7 in the area. They have a base right next to where the fire broke out, and VG gets confirmation that several members of the team were involved in the rescue work.
– They are located on the other side of the railway, they broke in and struggled in the initial phase. We are very grateful for that, Sheriff Roar Mordal Hilde in Rauma and Vestnes told VG.
– We are very happy that the volunteers react in this way.
The municipality of Rauma has established crisis personnel and has established a reception for evacuees and a psychosocial team that will follow those affected.
The fire caused delays in train traffic between Dombås and Åndalsnes on the Rauma line.
One house burned down and another was completely damaged after the fire, photos of Åndalsnes show on Thursday afternoon. The municipality has a press conference on the fire at 4pm on Thursday.
So far, VG has been unable to contact unit editor Amanda Brand of the film crew on Thursday afternoon.
