Benfica coach Jorge Jesús arrived with a small puncture to Rubén Dias when he said goodbye to his teammates.
Earlier this week Manchester City confirmed that the club will bring in midfielder Ruben Dias from Benfica, while Nicolas Otamendi is going the other way.
According to the BBC, the transfer fee is just under 800 million crowns for the player of the Portuguese national team.
– You go to a smaller club
Shortly after the clubs confirmed the transfer, Benfica released a video on YouTube, where they could say goodbye to their teammates.
However, it is coach Jorge Jesús who has made sure that the video has gone viral, after he in front of the entire Benfica stable, including a crying Rubén Dias, declared the following:
– This is life as a footballer. You go from a great club, much bigger than City. We are simply less economical. That’s what makes the difference.
The session is now covered by newspapers around the world.
Dias seems to take it all in a good mood and smiles at the coach, before crying when he has to say goodbye to his teammates.
– I have watched the Premier League for many years.
In his first interview as a Manchester City player, Dias says he is eager to try his luck in the Premier League.
– For many years I have watched the Premier League. In all these years I have seen Manchester City win and be on top. That I am here means that I am now at the top. That’s what he wanted, Dias tells the club’s website.
– For me, playing for a club like this in a league like this is everything I could dream of, continues Dias.
Manchester City advanced to the League Cup quarter-finals after a 3-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday night.
The next task is the away game with Leeds in the Premier League next Saturday.
