Tonight’s debate between Trump and Biden is described as chaos and the worst presidential debate in history. President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden spoke for much of the debate.
After the night’s interruptions, the committee organizing the debates announced new measures to ensure a more orderly discussion. Changes will be thoroughly evaluated before they are announced shortly.
Meanwhile, NRK has been on the streets talking to ordinary voters. Kathy Rush, who works at a coffee shop outside of Cleveland, Ohio, says the debate is chaotic.
– It was crazy. We will see what happens in the next two debates. But I can’t imagine the tone getting any more polite there. I hope so, because this is embarrassing, says Rush.
Opinions divided among voters
Although experts massacred the evening’s debate, opinions among voters are divided. Neither Trump’s supporters nor Biden’s have doubts about who won the debate.
“Our president has a clear advantage over Biden,” said Howard Burgess, a Trump supporter.
NRK spoke to him during the debate, at an event for Republicans in Pittsburgh.
– I’m a Trump supporter. The only reason I think Joe Biden did better is because he didn’t get carried away. And it completed the reasoning quite well, says Dennis Brittan.
Danny Devito, 28, is fighting for a seat on the Pennsylvania State Capitol. He believes that the president is the clear winner of the debate.
– Biden can’t keep up. The debate shows why we voted for Trump in 2016 and will vote for him in 2020 too, says Devito.
He believes the President understands the challenges America faces. At the same time, he calls Biden senile and doubts that he can have control over the country.
Aden Halpern, 21, is a student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. He fears for democracy in America after watching the debate.
– The debate was very different and terrifying. It’s a good way to describe the last four years, says Halpern.
Due to the situation of the crown in the United States, Aiden and his friends had a “virtual party” through the Discord platform, where they followed the debate.
The first-time voter believes that the potential for instability and violence in society is great. Whether Trump wins or not. Mainly due to the demonstrations of extremist groups such as Proud Boys and Antifa.
He himself has decided who will get his vote.
– I’m voting for Biden. Although I voted for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary. But I have no doubt who we are going to vote for in the presidential elections.
Fact-checking of allegations during debate
The president of the United States came up with an “avalanche” of lies during the debate tonight, and Biden didn’t tell the truth all the time, according to CNN. They verified the accusations made during the debate.
Most of Trump’s false accusations are things he came up with before and that have been repeatedly verified and found to be false, says CNN journalist Daniel Dale. Among the issues that were verified are postal votes, the crown pandemic and the country’s economy.
Joe Biden also made accusations against the president that they did not vote. Especially in economics. Where Biden believed Trump caused the recession in America. But the corona pandemic is the main cause of the collapse of the American economy.
