Kristiansund has long been free of coronary heart disease and Møre og Romsdal has the lowest infection of any county in the country.

Now the situation has radically changed for the North Sea city. Seven people have been diagnosed with covid-19. The municipality works intensively to detect infections. Four of the infection cases are related to the restaurant town Rensvik Pizza og Grill.

– Many guests have passed. It can involve up to 600 people, says Tore Lyngvær. He is the chief of communications for the municipality.

Everyone who has been there in the last ten days will be quarantined. Also, people must prove themselves.

Guest summary is missing

The challenge is that no one has an overview of who has been to the restaurant, so the municipality depends on people doing what they are told.

– We know that both a school class and a football team have been there. Otherwise we think there are small groups, says Lyngvær.

The infection was in nightclubs

In addition, the municipality has another complicated infection tracking underway. A person who visited Kristiansund this weekend subsequently tested positive for corona.

The person in question visited several discos during his stay. People who have been to the Dråper nightclub after 9pm on Saturday night are also asked to take the test and self-quarantine.

– We don’t know how many this can apply to, says Lyngvær.

Increase testability

Kristiansund Municipality now has twice the testing capacity to control the situation. On Tuesday, about 150 people were tested. On Wednesday, the goal is to test 180. The municipality estimates that the first test results may arrive tonight.

– The worst that can happen is that we have a wave of infections in Kristiansund that we do not have an overview of, says Lyngvær.

Kristiansund Municipality has improved emergency preparedness to the yellow level and a scale has been introduced in all hospitals.
