Per Sandberg (60) has landed a new job: as a tour guide on the legendary Route 66 in the USA.

In September next year, the starting point for the 60-year-old man’s biggest “road trip” to date: on two wheels through nine states, three time zones, and nearly 4,500 km across America.

– I have always had a great desire to follow the previous path, but as a minister and parliamentary representative, it has never worked. Now I make the boy’s dream come true, Sandberg tells VG.

But it’s not just about vacations and fun – Sandberg’s next two-wheeled adventure is just side work. The former Minister of Fisheries will not only take the cohabiting Bahareh Letnes (30) on a trip.

You will also be a guide for dozens of other tourists and therefore you must know your stuff.

Sandberg will appear as an attraction for Route66usa.info, the organizer of guided tours on the famous stretch.

Although Sandberg has ridden a motorcycle for many decades, at this time he does not have a bicycle.

– I am so enthusiastic that I feel naked without a motorcycle in the garage. Now I have an excuse to buy a Harley, says the 60-year-old.

Extreme experience

Sandberg is glad the partner is joining. But if Letnes hadn’t dared to be a grouse, she would have traveled alone.

– Yes, I can’t miss this opportunity. But that Bahareh is so enthusiastic is a lot of fun. For her, this is a fierce barrier to break. She and I have ridden a jet ski and a motorcycle together, but what she now faces is an extreme experience, Sandberg believes.

Last year Sandberg and Letnes bought a house in Halden. There they have established themselves as bar owners. The new business doesn’t stop them from planning motorcycle breaks for next year.

– We cannot stand at the bar 24/7, although we have done so so far. The bar should be left in the hands of people we trust.

Famous motorcycle route: Here are the highlights

Sandberg has a year to learn everything worth knowing about the history of the legendary old road.

– Bahareh and I became hosts in a way, so we both have to read and improve the competition.

The hope is that they can guide multiple tours, not just this one. And, of course, the crown situation does not stand still.

– Everything must be filmed too. I think the concept is so good that it should be documented and presented in some way. But it will likely be hectic, because the entire stretch will be covered in five to seven days, he calculates.

Sandberg claims he won’t get rich off the mission.

– It is not the money that attracts me, because there is not much to charge. For me, it is the experience itself that attracts.

Arve Stallvik, founder and owner of Route66usa.info, has been organizing trips for 18 years. He’s happy to have the celebrity couple as a giveaway.

– Per has the license plate on a motorcycle, and he is a popular guy, says Stallvik, who assures that the former FRP politician will also be accompanied by a professional guide.
