Solskjær had only retained Harry Maguire from the starting lineup in the disappointing first game of the league. A new United team, with rookie Dean Henderson in goal, failed to dominate.

Only Luton goalkeeper James Shea’s parade of feet kept the 23-year-old from scoring. Solskjær made a triple change right after. Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood entered without any immediate effect.

Luton had a double chance where Dean Henderson saved United from a penalty shootout with a super save. If the goalkeeper continues to grow in United’s own academy like this, he can put pressure on David de Gea.

Greenwood sent Rashford through the defense of Luton. The forward had no problem seizing the opportunity.
In extra time, Greenwood made it 0-3 when he shot from the right and scored through a Luton defender. Thus, a gray start ended in an easy victory for Manchester United.
Now Brighton waits in the Premier League. The southern club may also be United’s opponent in the fourth round of the league cup if they win their third round match against Preston on Wednesday.
