TRONDHEIM (VG) (Rosenborg-Haugesund 2–1) Åge Hareide (66) started with two debutants in his first home game after his comeback as Rosenborg coach. But it was an “old trotter” who saved the day.
Substitute Vegar Eggen Hedenstad (29) has hardly played as a right-back for Rosenborg this season. Against Haugesund, he started on the bench, before entering the break.
– It’s always fun to score goals, but the most important thing is that we win. It’s fun that it counts, Hedenstad tells VG.

Ten minutes before the end, the ball bounced perfectly for the offensive clearance of the river. From ten meters, Hedenstad hit the right foot perfectly and scored the winning goal in what was Hareide’s first match at Lerkendal after the coach’s comeback.
– It’s a bit fluffy. It’s not a great game, but we scored two goals that were enough for us to win.
No thunder speech
Three days after scoring two goals in the Europa League tie against Ventspils, Dino Islamovic picked up where he left off. It was his heel strike five minutes into the second half that put Hareide’s men on the winning track.
– The first half is bad. The second half is approved. It’s a good and important quality to be able to turn the game around, Hareide tells VG.
– Was it a thunderous speech?
– No he was not. But there were some things that we had to fix to get players in the right positions both on offense and defense. We come from a heavy track in Latvia, and we spent both Friday and a bit of Saturday recovering.
First round “flawless”
Before the 31st meeting between the two teams, the visiting team was left with three victories in three attempts against Rosenborg. A day after re-signing for the club, Icelandic Hólmar Örn Eyjólfsson (30) was thrown directly into the team. To his left, another new signing gained confidence; Pa Momodou Konate (26 years old).
– To be honest, I was a bit rusty, but I got into that the further we got into the fight. Being thrown right at him is a great way to get in shape. Now I’m tired, says Eyjólfsson.
Before the game, Haugesund coach Jostein Grindhaug said the plan was to carry Rosenborg strong and tall. That turned out to be a good plan, because the first 45 minutes must have been something almost “perfectly delivered” from all-blues.
– No, if it had been flawless, we would have gotten more out of the advantage. I think we are too imprecise in the last third, and that’s what bothers me the most. They have better individual players; today she saved Rosenborg. We have to be more efficient if we want to win games, says Haugesund coach Jostein Grindhaug.
After three corners in one minute, all good was three for Haugesund. Alexander Stølås hit hard in front of the goal. Rosenborg goalkeeper André Hansen had to go out in full force to prevent the ball from entering the goal, but could do little with the return. With the number 99 on his back, Haugesund’s Wayne Gretzky, Kristoffer Velde, led the away team in the lead in the nine minute.

Hareide was unhappy and made two changes at halftime. Samuel Adegbenro and Vegar Eggen Hedenstad replaced Erlend Dahl Reitan and Emil Konradsen Ceide. By then, Per Ciljan Skjelbred had already left the field with what looked like an injury.
– I felt it on the back of my thigh. Lately there have been a lot of training sessions, games and trips. It was going to be lead. I hope to be back soon, Skjelbred tells VG.
It wasn’t more than five minutes before Åsen won the ball and played Carlo Holse. This time, the ready-to-shoot Dane chose a pass, which turned out to be clever. Ciljan’s replacement, Edvard Tagseth, tried to shoot from twelve yards, but the ball slipped off his foot and hit an unmarked Dino Islamovic, who headed the ball toward the goal with his heel.
It is not known whether it was Hareide’s break talk or the substitutes’ entry. Perhaps the visiting team ran out of energy. Whatever the reason; when the “new Rosenborg” struggled, the old ones took responsibility.
