– I should have learned
On Friday, former WHO chief Gro Harlem Brundtland attended the WHO press conference on the status of the crown. At the end of her term, in 2002-2003, the sars virus hit the world.
Brundtland says the corona pandemic has created chaos and had catastrophic consequences for health, the economy, and social and political conditions. She thinks that one should have learned more from what happened during the severe epidemic.
– There have been warnings over and over again in the last ten years. We should be better prepared, Brundtland said.
France
In several countries, there is now a fear that the infection will continue to grow. France is also concerned about recent events. The country has reported for the first time since this spring an increase in the number of corona deaths. 265 corona-infected people died this week, compared to 129 weeks earlier.
There have also been reports of major incidents in hospitals around the country.
Island
Iceland is also becoming tougher as a result of increased infection. Among other things, it has been decided that all bars and clubs in the capital Reykjavik should be closed for the next four days.
In the last week, Iceland reported 59 new cases of infection and 58 are linked to the capital region.
Britain
The UK also doesn’t rule out the possibility of a new national shutdown.
– We are ready to do whatever it takes to protect life and what is the basis of life for our citizens, Health Minister Matt Hancock said on Friday.
On the same day, regional closures went into effect in North East England. The measures affect around 2 million people in and around the city of Newcastle. On Monday, the government also approved a ban on gatherings of more than six people.
At the same time, the government says new measures will be introduced in parts of the Midlands and West Yorkshire from Tuesday.
Spain
In Spain, health workers warn that hospitals lack the capacity to treat patients with severe coronary diseases, reports the AFP news agency.
On Friday, a partial shutdown was also introduced in Madrid as a result of the further spread of the infection. More than 850,000 inhabitants of the capital region will be affected.
As of Monday, it is only allowed to leave the “zone” to go to work, receive medical attention or take children to school, says the regional government.
People can move freely within the area, but no one from outside is allowed to enter. All bars and restaurants must cut their capacity in half. The strict measures will last two weeks.
In the entire capital region, gatherings with more than six people will be prohibited at the same time. Today the limit is ten.
The spread of the infection in the Madrid region is approximately six times greater than in the rest of the country. Military tents have been set up in a military hospital in Madrid where corona patients will receive treatment. The objective is to relieve the city hospital, reports the AP news agency.
The worst of Spain
Spain currently has the most severe spread of infection in the EU / EEA, with 292 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks.

Norway and Sweden have detected a maximum of 27 and 30 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.
– You can prevent another pandemic
The former Director-General now participates in advising WHO. Gro Harlem Brundtland believes that the world can avoid a new pandemic if we now learn about what is happening and take the necessary precautions together.
– We cannot face these challenges if we do not cooperate. None of us are safe until we are all safe, he said.
