Gareth Bale, Real Madrid | Gareth Bale is aware that he is not “done.” However, the expert is not convinced:

Gareth Bale (31) has gone from being one of the biggest soccer stars in the world to being discarded and completely lost. Petter Veland points out several reasons why things have gone so bad at Real Madrid.

Gareth Bale is undesirable at Real Madrid, but getting rid of the Welsh star has not been an easy task for the Spanish club. Now, however, it is connected with a return to Tottenham and perhaps the saga can finally get a solution for the club and the player. On Wednesday night, the Daily Mail reported that Bale is almost ready for the London club.

Bale made his way as a Tottenham player in 2007-2013, before moving to Real Madrid. At Spurs, the attacking player was in his prime, almost impossible to reach and one of the best players in the Premier League.

He has also had his moments at Real Madrid and during that time he has won four Champions League titles and two in the League. In recent years, however, the superstar’s contributions on the pitch have been modest, while at the same time he has a salary that is said to be around 30 million euros gross per season, and a contract that still lasts two years before. Little by little, the relationship between the club and the player has turned icy and the situation is now described as a cold war.

Veland skeptical of the way

Therefore, La Liga expert Petter Veland isn’t sure what kind of version of Bale Spurs fans to expect, even though the 31-year-old himself has said he’s motivated.

– Play international matches for Wales and almost always come back injured every time. He’s been terribly small in action for Real Madrid in recent months so I guess he’s not in good physical shape, he tells Nettavisen.

In an interview during the recent international campaign, however, Bale gave a rare interview in which he expressed that he has several years of career left. The interview has been described as “one of the most honest interviews Bale has given in a long time” and has been around the world.

– We almost have to take his word for it, in the interview where he finally opened his mouth, he himself says that he has many good years left and is motivated to play football. That’s what he says and then you almost have to believe it, but in practice I don’t think he has shown anything special to suggest it, the LaLiga expert believes.

However, right after the international matches with Wales, there were reports in the media that Bale was injured again and had to run his own program, rather than going to regular training sessions.

– Again, a pretty clear trend is seen when Bale returns from Wales, then he is usually injured, but there is never an official injury report from Real Madrid and there is always someone injured there. It is not required by law, but Real Madrid is a club owned by its members who, in many ways, have a mission and a mandate in which they must inform their members about what is happening in the club, including by publishing of injury reports. It never gets to Bale, he says.

– He tells me that Bale’s alleged injury problems are a pretext for not being training and are part of the Cold War that has been going on for quite some time between Real Madrid and Gareth Bale.

Several factors have led to the “Cold War”

Veland, an expert on La Liga, says that there is not a single specific incident that is the reason why there is now almost a cold war between the Welshman and the Spanish club, but points to a series of incidents that are said to have caused the cold relationship.

– Now it seems that Bale is a big problem for Real Madrid, and Real Madrid is a big problem for Bale. So we can hope that all parties find out about this here. Real Madrid must realize that they may not give him much in return and that he may have to pay a part of the salary and then Bale must understand that he cannot demand that he be paid one hundred percent for the two years left of contract, while Tottenham can also pay him, says Veland in an interview with Nettavisen.

He believes that since Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013, there have been several factors that have helped build on what we now see is nearing completion.

– It may be that Bale did not feel valued as much as he should have been when he acted. He was in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo the entire time, for both natural and logical reasons. Perhaps you felt you ended up too much in the shadows.

– It has always been said, and it has been used as a motive, that it has never been fully accepted among the Real Madrid fans. He does what he has to do, but never again, and then I think off the field. It is rare to see Bale in other contexts where he speaks fondly of Real Madrid or takes pride in being at the club.

Veland further says that Bale never appears in social gatherings with the other players in the club and that he is also not comfortable with appearing in functions that will be published on the various social media platforms of the club.

– They say it is because he does not feel comfortable speaking the language. You can have a conversation in Spanish when there is no camera, but you are restrained and introverted when you have to speak Spanish in front of the camera, you don’t want to do that.

– This is one of several reasons why Bale has turned into a chicken. The fan is very proud to play for Real Madrid. Being a Real Madrid player, you have to “own him”, you have to be extremely proud of him, says Veland.

– has been swept under the rug

Veland believes that the club and the fans could live with this behavior of Bale as long as he did well on the field, but lately the cup has started to overflow.

– This was a problem that he hid under the carpet when in fact he did very well, but now it is starting to take a long time for him Bale has been an important player for Real Madrid. Last season, he was a shadow of himself when he got the first chance. This can be understood in many ways, since a transfer to China did not take place, but we are talking here about a player who has a hugely higher salary than he returns, or we can say what he has the opportunity to return. But in the last calendar year, Bale has scored a goal for the club, in the cup, against a level four team, Veland says.

– It is the only goal he has scored lately and now he hasn’t scored for Wales in quite some time. Now you can no longer praise Bale for what he does on the field, as before.

Bale + Mourinho = party of God?

Although Bale has been cold at Real Madrid for a long time, Veland doesn’t think a transfer to Tottenham is necessarily the dumbest idea.

He believes, for example, that coach José Mourinho has some qualities that can bring out the best in the 31-year-old Welshman. Mourinho has also had in previous clubs the desire to work with Bale.

– We have a little more impression of how Mourinho is in training camp through the series “All or nothing” on Amazon Prime. Among other things, how he talks directly to the players and is honest and open about expectations, like with Dele Alli, for example.

– Two years ago there were very specific rumors that Mourinho, who was then manager of Manchester United, wanted Gareth Bale there. So it is a link that is a bit hot that way.

Veland concludes by recounting a little how a return to London and the famous funnels can be exactly what can tempt Bale to leave life in Spain.

– What has always happened with Bale is that he has never had the need to leave Real Madrid, because he is doing very well in life in general, that is, off the field. The family thrives, it is a warm climate, he can play golf, he can live in peace.

– That factor of well-being can come into play now and, if you find out that it is time to leave Real Madrid. A return to an environment that he knows, although there may not be many left from the last time he played there, it can play on the sentimental level.
