Hamburg defender Toni Leistner stormed into the stands in a rage and confronted the fans.

Hamburg SV suffered a crushing defeat on Monday night when they lost 1-4 to Dynamo Dresden in the German Cup.

The game was played for some 10,000 spectators at the Rudolf Harbig Stadium, but not everyone appreciated some of the fans who had made the trip.

It was too much for Hamburg stopper Leistner when Dresden fans teased him after the match.

Leistner reacted by bursting into the stands where he grabbed a supporter who allegedly insulted him.

The Hamburg player was quickly rejected by other Dresden fans, before leaving the stands.

– Offended the family

The German, who was born in Dresden, then tried to conduct an interview with German Sky, but German Bild writes that the interview was interrupted when he suddenly yelled beer from angry Dresden fans.

Late on Monday night, Leistner posted an apology on his Instagram profile.

The player who was picked up from England’s Queens Park Rangers this summer explains that he reacted to rude insults directed at his family.

– This is still something that shouldn’t happen to me. I am a family man who wants to be a role model. I apologize for my behavior and can only promise that no matter what insults are directed at me, something like this will never happen again, Leistner writes.

Dresden encourages humility

However, the player is not the only one who has reacted after the incident.

On Monday evening, Dynamo Dresden also published a post on Instagram where they do their best to forgive the Hamburg player and at the same time present an invitation to their own followers.

– It is especially when you are successful that you have to show humility, gratitude and greatness, the club writes, among other things.

– People make mistakes. Toni Leistner is a Dresden boy with his heart in the right place and has never forgotten where he comes from, the club continues before they also point out that Leistner is always welcome back to the city.

However, it is somewhat more uncertain if all the team’s fans share that opinion.
