Former Vålerenga strategist Zahid, now at Cypriot APOEL after being loaned to Greek Panathinaikos last season, was the player who found Kjartansson better than anyone when the Icelander was last at VIF.

So Osame Sahraoui sat down with top player developer Igor Aase and studied clips of Zahid from six years before Brann’s match, which ended with a hat trick from the Icelander.

– It is important to do that when new players enter. They compare me to Ghayas, and then it’s good to see on video how he felt about Kjartansson. I have talked a lot with the coaches and analyzed their relationships, says the 19-year-old after scoring two of Kjartansson’s three goals against Brann:

“Nobody is like the Ghayas,” the Icelander told VG before meeting Brann. But he is asked if he did not change his mind after 12 minutes and 20 seconds.

Because then Sahraoui was embroidering a pass to four defenders from Brann and suddenly his new playmate was alone with goalkeeper Markus Olsen Pettersen.

Then there was no touchdown, but it was forgotten when Kjartansson headed at 3-1 on Sahraoui’s tilt at the back post, then when he launched the 4-1 on the 19-year-old’s perfect forward ball over Brann’s defense.

– A little early to say. Zahid was amazing the last time I was here. You never know. But this guy is a really good player, says the Icelander.

Sahraoui has no problem being compared to seven-year-old Zahid, who also had assists in four of Kjartansson’s 25 series goals in 2014.

– I like it a lot, reports the playful fan favorite of Vålerenga.

He and Kjartansson both scored 9 points on the VG stock exchange after manhandling Kåre Ingebrigtsen’s wounded shooter Brann. The best on the pitch, Sahraoui, even scored the fifth and final goal, and then Kjartansson was the penultimate Vålerenga player with the ball.
