Corona virus: – – The next wave may be longer

On Monday, the World Health Organization issued a disappointing warning: Europe must be prepared for daily increases in the number of corona-related deaths in the two months of testing.

– It’s going to get worse. In October and November, we will have more deaths, the European head of the WHO, Hans Kluge, told the AFP news agency.

The warning comes at a time when infection rates have risen steadily over time.

Health Deputy Director Espen Nakstad shares WHO’s concern for the coming months.

– Rapid increase

– We share WHO’s concern that we may have an increasing trend towards infection during the fall in much of the world. The increasing trend of infection can occur as a result of fatigue in many countries, with less compliance with infection control advice, but also because it is more difficult to keep your distance and avoid accumulations in the interior of the earth in the northern hemisphere now in winter, Nakstad tells Dagbladet.

On Sunday, the WHO reported the largest increase in corona infection in a single day, with 307,930 new cases.

Many of those infected today are among the younger part of the population. For this reason, several European countries have launched their own campaigns and measures targeting young people, in the hope of reducing contagion rates.

At the same time, several countries have reintroduced certain infection control measures to limit infection.

According to Nakstad, there is now a clear trend in Europe for infection among younger adults in late summer, which is now spreading to other age groups who become more seriously ill.

– Hospitals in France and Spain have had a large influx of patients with covid-19 in recent days, and the increase appears to be occurring rapidly. Therefore, there is a real risk that we will soon have a second wave of infections in several European countries, as the virus begins to spread uncontrollably again and affects larger population groups.

On Monday, 21 corona patients were admitted to Norwegian hospitals, five more than before the weekend. The number is the highest since June 9, NTB writes.

Despite the rise in coronary heart disease in most of Europe, Nakstad doesn’t think a potential second wave will be as high as it was in March when it comes to emergency admissions.

This is because we now have a better overview through testing and can previously implement more specific measures than was possible at the time.

However, he believes that this time a new wave could be longer and at least as difficult to handle.

– The reason for this is that the virus affects countries differently and thus makes it difficult to coordinate effective infection control measures, Nakstad tells Dagbladet.
