– No other serious player has done what Hurtigruten has done here, because there has been a fairly clear understanding that it is out of the law. That Hurtigruten, even after being warned, chooses to challenge him, I must say that I am quite angry.
Stian Grøthe tells Dagbladet. He is Director of Policy and Government Contacts at the Norwegian Seafarers Association.
On Thursday, it became clear that Hurtigruten will replace MS “Fridtjof Nansen” and will deploy MS “Finnmarken” as a charter boat in connection with the filming of the latest movie “Mission: Impossible.” The background was statements by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Iselin Nybø (V), that the business “violated the law”. The MS ‘Finnmarken’ has a Norwegian crew and is registered in the Norwegian Ordinary Register of Ships (NOR).
Peaceful Cruising Over Boat Fight
The next day, Dagbladet was able to report that Sjømannsforbundet and Fellesforbundet still maintain their police report against Hurtigruten. They still believe that the activities in the MS “Fridtjof Nansen” violated both the NIS regulations and the Immigration Law.
– If you have broken Norwegian law, you have broken Norwegian law. She cannot be allowed to break the law for two weeks if she repents, Grøthe told Dagbladet on Friday.
Hurtigruten notes that the Norwegian Maritime Authority has previously concluded that activities on the ship do not violate the law. Read her full answer below in the case.
The police are investigating the case. Communications chief Olav Sindre Rise in the Møre og Romsdal police district wrote in an SMS to Dagbladet on Friday that the police are continuing their investigations, but have yet to draw any conclusions.
– Warned in meeting
Grøthe says that the Norwegian Seamen’s Association had a meeting with representatives of Hurtigruten’s management a few days before business started at MS ‘Fridtjof Nansen’.
– Then we pointed out that they were going to immerse themselves in at least two offenses. The Norwegian Seamen’s Association warned Hurtigruten of at least two crimes before it all started, and that we would move on if they didn’t take note of our warning.
It refers to the statements of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Iselin Nybø (V), both before and after the dishwashing meeting between the maritime unions, Hurtigruten and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on September 7.
– The Norwegian Maritime Directorate said this is inside, but they were quickly corrected by the Minister, says Grøthe.
Grøthe has presented his schedule to Dagbladet, where it appears Hurtigruten representatives were invited to a team meeting with the Norwegian Seafarers Association on August 27.
The Norwegian Seafarers Association has also sent emails to Dagbladet mentioning the warning of violations and is scheduled for the same date.
Nybø after the dishwashing meeting: – In violation of the law.
– Had several meetings
Dagbladet has submitted Grøthe’s statements for Hurtigruten.
– We have had several meetings with the main shop stewards and union leadership in the Norwegian Seafarers Association, the Norwegian Naval Officers Association and the Norwegian Machinists Association, both before and during the charter assignment, where we have discussed a number of issues related to the operation.
Anne Marit Bjørnflaten, Hurtigruten’s director of public relations, responds to this in an email to Dagbladet on Friday.
Among other things, we informed the unions before the charter started that we will pay the crew under Norwegian conditions. We have also made it clear in our meetings that we operate within NIS legislation, which has been confirmed by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.
She describes the hire of MS “Fridtjof Nansens” for film production as an “extraordinary one-off event”.
– The Norwegian Maritime Authority is our supervisory authority. They have confirmed that the ship is not considered a hotel ship, that the use of the ship is within the NIS law and therefore fully legal.
Also, write:
– After Minister Iselin Nybø made it clear that she wanted to make a regulatory change to change the NIS rules, we began the work of looking for alternative solutions.
Ever since Dagbladet first mentioned the Norwegian Seamen’s Association warning of possible social dumping aboard the ‘MS Fridtjof Nansen’, there has been criticism of Hurtigruten for using a NIS registered ship for hotel assignment in Hellesylt.
