There have long been high expectations for 17-year-old Henriette Jæger. This weekend, Norwegian athletic talent has once again shown why during the match of seven at Melløs in Moss, their last match of seven of their career with youth teams.

Halden’s girl at Østfold, representing Aremark, stood at 3,818 points after Saturday’s exercises and was already on track to break her personal record of 6129 points, which she set during the junior championship in Fagernes in early August.

It was also clear that the 17-year-old, if she delivered equally good performances on Sunday, would break the world record in the U-18 category of 6,221 points, which Spain’s María Vicente set in 2018.

I take this opportunity

He did not miss that opportunity. Before Sunday’s last practice, 800 meters, it was clear that Jæger would break the world record as long as he did not spend more than two minutes and 17 seconds in the distance. Instead, the 17-year-old set a new personal record with a time of 2.11.37 and thus achieved a total score of 6301 points.

– I’m very happy. For that I have been working all year and that has really been my only goal. I’m so happy that it happened, Jæger tells NRK after setting a world record.

Then it comes

The sporting director of the Norwegian Athletics Association, Erlend Slokvik, is not surprised that Jæger delivered a top shelf performance.

– Is very pretty. It doesn’t surprise me so far. It was planned that she would try to get the best grade. She has been very good this fall. I won’t say that it was expected, but it was in the cards that she could perform at this level, Slokvik tells Aftenposten.

– She is a tough girl. She has a lot of energy, she is physically strong, full of guts and willpower. She wants to be good, says the sports director.

Jump length against headwind

After a total of 4.8 m / s tailwind at 100 meters hurdles and 200 meters, Jæger could not have more than 1.3 m / s tailwind in length, because the record would not have been valid if the average in the three exercises where the wind is measured would have been greater than 2 .0 m / s.

Therefore, Jæger had to reverse the approach and the long jump in a headwind on Sunday. It didn’t seem to affect him. With 1.3 m / s headwind, she set a new personal record and a new age record in Norway when she jumped 6.33 meters.

In javelin he was a meter and a half behind his personal best, but it didn’t matter when he ran at time 2.11.37 in 800 meters.

Has had its breakthrough

Jæger has long been described as perhaps the greatest talent in Norwegian athletics. He has several age records in Norway and last year he took silver in seven during the Youth Olympic Games in the Azerbaijani capital Baku.

During the NM covered in Bærum in February this year, the then 16-year-old took gold in both 60 meters and 200 meters.
