Salah-hat trick saved Liverpool in wild goalscoring drama against Leeds – VG

The first game of the series was for the reigning league champions and newly promoted Leeds at Anfield. Before four minutes were up, Leeds player Robin Koch stopped the ball with his hand in the area. Mohamed Salah launched the penalty safely in the middle of the goal.

This was the fourth year in a row that Salah scored in the first league game for Liverpool.

– He’s at a sensational level, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp told TV 2 of the Egyptian goal machine after the match.

But along the way, there was plenty of fun and drama, before Salah scored his third goal of the game, three minutes before full time. That was Salah’s second penalty goal of the match.

– I love football like this

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp missed the fans in the stadium.

– I’m very happy, especially because we got three points. The things we do wrong are pretty obvious. But the opponent struggled, they chased every ball, I love that kind of football, Klopp told TV 2 about Leeds after the game.

Kjetil Rekdal almost achieved a dream result as a Leeds supporter.

– Liverpool deservedly won, Rekdal summed up during a post-match broadcast on VGTV.

What a fight it was. Leeds responded immediately after the local team’s first online contact. Heldér Costa put the ball into the goal, but it went offside. Shortly after, Leeds got the chance again and Jack Harrison tied for the guests.

Liverpool have gotten used to starting the season with a lot of goals. Last year they beat Norwich 4-1, the year before West Ham 4-0. It was 3-3 against Watford in 2017, while they beat Arsenal 4-3 in 2016.

There were going to be many goals this Saturday and. After 20 minutes, Liverpool received a corner kick and Andy Robertson attacked. Virgil van Dijk flew higher, used his head perfectly and put the ball in the hands of the Leeds goalkeeper who was inside the goal.

But Leeds were obviously not put off by the fact that it’s been 16 years since they last played in the Premier League or that the opponent’s name is Liverpool. Marcelo Bielsa’s disciples continued offensively. Former Premier League professional and national team captain Brede Hangeland was impressed with Leeds’ delivery.

A lot happened in Leeds after 16 years out of the top league. After the pause, they continued attacking with life and desire, will and enthusiasm.
