– We are in an initial phase of the investigation, says police lawyer Henrik Bjugan Hegdahl in the Agder police district.
The man was arrested on Thursday, August 20. The next day, he was in preventive detention for four weeks with a letter and a visitation ban.
Police claim that the man is accused of several sexual assaults against children in the 14-16 age group.
Informed parents and guardians
Police are now working to uncover the abuse and the extent of the case.
On Monday afternoon, the police held a briefing with representatives of the soccer club and the parents of the team’s players.
– It was important for the police to inform the parents about the general characteristics of the case, as well as to inform more about the process, before the case is known to the public, says Hegdahl.
– Terribly sad
Agder Football Club leader Yngvar Håkonsen says he has just learned of the accusation against the man in his 20s.
– It is clear that this is terribly sad. We don’t want this in football, sports or in society in general, Håkonsen tells NRK.
Håkonsen does not want to share who contacted the circle about the accusation against the football coach.
– What I can say is that football should be a safe place for children and young people, and when something like this comes up it is terribly sad.
