Manchester United recently secured Ajax star Donny van de Beek. Then the director and former Ajax goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar wanted to give his former fans a clear message.
Van der Sar, who played for United from 2005 to 2011, is now Ajax’s sporting director and was directly involved in the van de Beek negotiations.
After selling the star, he decided to run a full-page ad space in the local Manchester Evening News.
There he came with this message to United fans:
Dear Manchester United supporters.
I hope you are doing well.
It seems that our paths have met again. One of ours will be joining you this season. And like so many other players before him, he has been with our club since he was a child.
It wasn’t long after his debut before he was one of our best players. Especially the last few years were incredible. From the final of the Europa League (no hard feelings) to our adventure in the Champions League and the Dutch league championship. The team he was a part of showed the world who we are and what Ajax stands for.
Like you, we pride ourselves on developing our own talents and giving them an opportunity at the highest level. Your new star is the result of that mindset.
This is one of the many reasons why we don’t like it to go away, but we understand that it is time to do so. Dream more.
And there is no better place to do this than in your theater. Believe me I know.
Please take good care of our Donny, help him dream. And enjoy the future.
It wasn’t long before Manchester United expressed their admiration for the old goalkeeper’s gesture.
United’s official Twitter account responded by posting the following greeting to van der Sar:
The transfer fee for the Dutchman is claimed to be around £ 40 million. Van de Beek is eager to join Manchester United.
– I cannot explain how great it is to have the opportunity to be part of a club with such an incredible history, says van de Beek.
Thanks Ajax
At the same time, he thanks the old Ajax club where he has graduated.
– Now I am ready to take the next step in my career and fulfill at the highest level, and there is no higher standard than at Manchester United, says the Dutchman.
The 23-year-old midfielder is said to have received a five-year contract that gives him more than 100,000 pounds a week.
