– There were some misunderstandings out there. But it was strange that it took so long. It was very special, says Drillo in an open interview with Dagbladet.

The former coach of the national soccer team went through ups and downs in private and on the soccer field during the 20 years that his unknown son grew up.

The turning point came when an unexpected letter appeared in the mail. At first Egil Olsen thought it was a clarification of a fact that he was waiting for.

But the sender turned out to be her old Danish love. She was living in Oslo when they met in 1984, but finally lost contact when she returned to Denmark.

The letter said in black and white that Egil Drillo Olsen was the father of a 19-year-old man living in Denmark.

When asked directly if it was a personal shock, Drillo responds to Dagbladet:

– Yes, that was it.

Didn’t know his own son was sitting in the stands

During the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, a boy sat in the stands with his mother. The boy was Drillo’s son. But he did not know about the boy or that his own son was following the fight he led.

“For a clever coach, he must be a dad,” the boy is said to have told his mother during the fight.

In adulthood, father and son have contacted and met several times.

That his Danish son also excels on the football field, including as captain of the Danish national futsal team, comforts the heart of Drillo’s father.

– He must have inherited some genes there, then, says Drillo.
