Gaute Helstrup received a contract from Tromsø IL to take over as coach. Helstrup’s contract expires with HamKam this year.
Helstrup was supposed to return to work in Hamar last Monday, but he now resides in Tromsø with his family.
In NRK’s experience, HamKam denies the dismissal.
– Gaute Helstrup has a contract with HamKam, and more than that I don’t want to comment, says HamKam Chairman of the Board Rune Strand.
It will neither confirm nor deny that Helstrup has completed his coaching job with NRK.
– We just recorded that Gaute is not in Briskeby today, says Rune Strand.
But according to the Norlys newspaper, Strand says they have been laid off, which they dispute.
In talks with Tromsø
NRK knows that Helstrup has had several conversations with management in Tromsø in the past few days. At the same time, several other candidates, including Per-Mathias Høgmo and Bjørn “Bummen” Johansen, have told Tromsø management that they no longer wish to be on the club’s roster.
– What do you think of Tromsø, in the middle of the crown era, trying to steal his coach before the start of the series?
– I don’t want to comment on that now. We may have to go back to that, says HamKam president Rune Strand.
In a press release on Wednesday afternoon, Tromsø confirms that they have made an offer to Helstrup, but that a final agreement cannot be reached until his employment situation in HamKam is clarified.
NRK has not yet received the chairmanship of the Trømsø Sports Club, Stig Bjørklund, in the form of a speech. HamKam coach Gaute Helstrup has not answered NRK’s questions.
Wait order
Rune Strand on HamKam says it is a special time for everyone, but he hopes that all parties will act in an orderly and fluid manner.
– I hope Tromsø does that, and we will, “says Strand.
It will not say whether HamKam is now in dialogue with Tromsø.
