The crown eruption despite this, spring seems quite exciting for those in the market for a new laptop. Apple has released a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is here, Microsoft Surface Book 3 is available immediately, and Dell is following up to wake up one of its old trays.
It’s been a long time since we last had a 17-inch Dell XPS available on the test bench, and now there’s finally a new model. Dell refers to the new XPS 17 as “the smallest 17-inch laptop in the world” and claims it is less than half the 15-inch on the market.
The company is known for its InfinityEdge displays with very thin frames, which helps keep the footprint low. The PC can be equipped with a 4K display at 500 nit brightness with support for Dolby Vision, HDR and 100 percent Adobe RGB color space.
An interesting detail of the screen is that it is 16:10 format, unlike 16: 9, which has been common on Dell XPS machines for a long time.
From the hardware, the XPS 17 can be configured with up to Intel’s 10th generation Core i7 processor, a dedicated graphics card in the form of Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, which can handle most games, and a total of 4TB of storage and 64 GB of memory.
For connectivity, the XPS 17 will have four USB-C, audio jack and SD memory card reader.
And the battery life? Up to 20 hours, but this applies to the model whose screen resolution is 1920 x 1200 pixels.
XPS 15
Dell will also release a new version of the XPS 15, including the one with an InfinityEdge 16:10 display. In addition to size, the 4K panel is virtually identical to the 17-inch panel with support for Dolby Vision, HDR, and 500-nit brightness.
Much is similar between the XPS 15 and XPS 17, but one of the differences is that the former supports maximum Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics. As mentioned above, XPS 17 has support for Nvidia’s RTX 2060 series.
Here, Dell promises up to 25 hours of battery life for the model with FHD + resolution.
It is common for both to have a built-in camera on the screen, despite the slim design. They also have a finger sensor built into the power button. Dell also promises better sound from its laptop speakers, which are equipped with four speakers with 3D audio support. It can be interesting to see how well they hold up against MacBook Pro 16, among others.
Unfortunately, the press release doesn’t reveal any pricing, but what we do know is that the XPS 15 will be available on May 14. The XPS 17 will be available during the summer, and that’s all we know so far.
