– This is an anniversary in the history of Telia and our clients. At a time when we really see the importance of our digital foundation to keep the wheels of the community going, we are incredibly proud to be able to open our 5G network to customers, with Lillestrøm first, says CEO Stein-Erik Vellan of Telia Norway.
The company aims for up to half the population to have 5G coverage in the coming year.
– It is about competitiveness for our country. The next generation mobile network, 5G, opens up for the digital services of the future. This helps ensure that Norwegian mobile networks continue to be among the best in the world in the future, says district and digitization minister Linda Hofstad Helleland (H).
Telia’s 5G network will be expanded throughout the year in Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen, the company reveals.
Telenor has opened
In early April, competitor Telenor announced that they had opened their 5G network in several municipalities in Norway, with Trondheim as the largest metropolitan area with access to the mobile network.
If you have a Telenor subscription and a 5G device, you can connect in these areas:
- Bodo
- Elverum
- Fornebu
- Kongsberg
- Kvitfjel
- Nail soup in Oslo
- Svalbard / Longyearbyen
At the same time, the operator Ice is also working on the launch of 5G here in Norway and has prepared several cities for the technology, but it is not yet clear when customers will have access to the next generation mobile networks.
– We continue to invest and expand our national 4G network, as we prepare for the next generation of mobile technology. Over the past year we have also invested in more frequencies to be used for both 4G and 5G. We are well prepared for the future, and look forward to continuing to develop our network in good cooperation with Nokia, as our supplier and partner Reynir Johansen writes. Communications manager at Ice, in an email to Dinside.
