New Year’s price records have been turned upside down.
On Monday morning you can buy diesel for just 10 kroner and gasoline for less than 12 kroner in many places in Norway. One X can report by kr. 9.69 at bombs at Sandnes and Namsos.
Diesel has not been so low since November 2005, when a liter of diesel cost it NOK. 9.61, Statistics Norway displays statistics on historical fuel prices. Statistics Norway has recorded monthly fuel prices since the 1980s.
– The purchase price is moving strongly due to the world situation. Then we get lower prices. Furthermore, there is high intensity and strong competition in the Norwegian fuel market, says Jens Haugland, CEO of Uno X Norway.

40 percent drop in prices since New Years
To find a lower price when the price increase is included, we have to go back to July 1990. Then one liter of diesel cost NOK 5.04, which is equivalent to NOK 9.40 in 2020.
Recent price history shows a rapid decline in winter. In the new year, the recommended price was a record NOK. 17.53 and 16.86 – according to the price statistics to which Nettavisen has obtained access. Pump prices at service stations are often adjusted. Therefore, there may be changes in the prices indicated here a few hours after Nettavisen has recorded the prices.
Indicative prices are higher than average pump prices, which is what SSB figures are based on. With indicative prices in the years 16-17 during January and February, the price of the pump was largely in the 15s.
The surprisingly low pump prices are now largely due to the price war, says Knut Hansen, spokesman for Cirkle K Norway.
– It is local and the results vary from one place to another.
– How long can we expect diesel prices below 11 kroner?
“There have been tough price wars all weekend, but I don’t want to think so much about how long this can last,” says Hansen.
Indicative prices have come down a lot since the end of February as cost prices started to drop. In April, new records were set for the price of oil.

A long time ago I saw huge gaps
On Monday morning the list prices are NOK. 14.66 for diesel and 15.20 for gasoline at automatic stations, according to Circle K. According to Hansen, pump prices are up to $ 4 below the list price.
– It has been a long time since we have seen pump prices as low as now, and such large gaps between target prices and pump prices.
Prices adjust when there is a change in cost, and this can happen several times a week, says Hansen. In addition to cost prices, prices are also affected by local demand.
The driving pattern in recent months has led to a sharp decrease in the number of cars on the roads, compared to what is common at this time of year. For the most part, fuel sales fell 20-30 percent during the months of March and April.
– Lifting the booth ban has meant sales have picked up again now, says Hansen, who does not want to speculate on whether prices could go even further.
