Coronavirus, Institute of Public Health | New overview: how to distinguish between crown, allergy, cold and flu

[ad_1]

This is what doctors should consider.

The Institute of Public Health has created a new overview that compares symptoms of covid-19, allergy, flu, and colds.

– The following table should assist patients and clinicians in evaluating patient symptoms to determine if covid-19 is suspected. Gradually it has become apparent that the top three symptoms of fever, cough, and wheezing do not give a complete picture of this disease, FHI writes in its new risk report.

The recommendation now is that anyone who has symptoms that a doctor suspects might be covid-19 should be tested.

Many types of potential symptoms have appeared

One of the challenges with covid-19 is that symptoms vary from patient to patient. In recent months there have been an increasing number of indications of common and less common symptoms.

Below we have gathered most of what has been reported:

incubation

According to the WHO, the time from infection to disease gives symptoms, the incubation time is estimated at 5-6 days, but can vary from 0 to 14 days.

Most common symptoms

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the most common symptoms of the disease are:

  • fever
  • tired clergy / sykhetsfølelse
  • Dry cough

The Norwegian Health Informatics (NHI) medical referral system also highlights the following symptoms as usual:

These symptoms usually start slightly and can get worse over time.

Other symptoms

Both WHO and Norwegian Health Informatics (NHI) also reports a number of other symptoms that can be caused:

  • Thin cough
  • Bloody mucus
  • shaking chills
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • frost fall
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • discomfort
  • diarrhea
  • Low back pain can also be a symptom.

The WHO reports that most people who contract the disease do not need any treatment, but for some, covid-19 develops with a much more severe course of the disease.

Serious symptoms

According to Norwegian health informatics, these are symptoms of a serious course:

  • Heavy breathing from exertion, eventually also from rest
  • chest pain
  • Shortness of breath that requires oxygen supply.
  • Severe lung failure that can lead to death.

The sense of taste and smell is affected by many

Symptoms that are not on any official symptom list, but have been reported, are that smell and taste may be affected.

– Almost all of us infected the interview, and this applies to approximately two thirds, described the loss of smell and taste that lasted for several days. It went so far that a mother couldn’t smell her baby’s diaper, says Hendrik Streeck, a professor at the Institute of Virology at Bonn University Hospital, to the German newspaper. Frankfurter General Newspaper.

Acute abdominal pain can be covid-19

In recent weeks, the University of Oslo Hospital has treated several patients with abdominal pain who have covid-19. The experience has led to changes in hospital routines, reports the Norwegian magazine Tiddsskriftet.

Several patients with abdominal pain and lower abdominal pain have been treated. Patients have talked about reduced appetite, nausea and vomiting, and some also diarrhea. All were examined with CT, and the images showed typical findings in covid-19’s lungs.

– Based on our experience so far, we have changed routines in the gastro and pediatric surgery department. All patients with unresolved upper abdomen pain and all who have abdominal pain with concomitant fever are treated as a gout infection until the test results for covid-19 are available, says Hilde Bastøe Sellevoll, physician from the department of gastro and pediatric surgery, University of Oslo Hospital, Ullevål.

Ocular cold may occur

There have also been reports that a possible side effect of crown infection may be an eye cold, also known as conjunctivitis. This is a harmless infection of the eye.

A study from China found that about 1 in 30 people in China had conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis is often seen in upper respiratory tract infections caused by various viruses, and is a non-specific symptom that may be due to the virus itself or that the tear ducts are blocked due to infection of the nasal mucosa. Therefore, it is not surprising if it can also be seen in some covid-19 patients, says senior consultant Margrethe Greve-Isdahl of the FHI Department of Infection and Vaccine Protection at Nettavisen.

The skin rash can be a symptom.

It is also currently being investigated whether the rash may be a symptom of a corona. According to several smaller studies, red spots and rashes may be a sign of a viral infection.

– Most had a red rash, some had hives, and one had chickenpox-like rashes. The skin changes ceased after a few days and there seemed to be no connection between the rash and the severity of the disease, dermatologist Thomas Nordal explains to NRK.

According to ABC News, dermatologists in the United States also reported that several patients tested positive, with problems similar to freezing.

They have suggested that the skin may act as a “window”, explaining the problems coronavirus causes within the body.

Children have mild crown symptoms

Most of the evidence suggests that children escape the worst course of illness.

Most children infected with the coronavirus experience mild to moderate symptoms, although a small percentage have serious complications, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics on Monday, according to NBC News.

A study indicates that 94 percent of children run away without symptoms or mild symptoms.

Doctors warn of increased risk of blood clots

This is stated in an article in the Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association, by specialist Anders Tveita at Bærum Hospital.

– The virus may appear to trigger an immune response, which in turn triggers a chain reaction that causes blood clots to form. How this happens, you still don’t know, writes the magazine in the research article review.

The symptoms of blood clots in the lungs, pulmonary embolism, are very similar to the symptoms of coronary infection with chest pain, dry cough, high heart rate, and fever. The article also mentions that among 184 Dutch covid-19 patients, 27 percent found blood clots and that 25 of them had again developed pulmonary embolism, reports NTB.
