This is what the man behind “Someone I Used to Know” does today.

In 2011, Australian Belgian-born Wouter made “Wally” De Backer (39), better known by the artist’s name Gotye, who achieved success with the hit “Someone I Used To Know”.

Before long, the song was on everyone’s lips and topped the charts around the world. Radio stations, talk shows, newspapers, and other journalists longed for him a little, and overnight the relatively unknown composer became a world star.

However, it wasn’t just the fans’ favor that won with the single. The experts were also convinced. and the same year he was nominated for seven ARIA Awards, for this year’s best-selling single, this year’s single, best pop of the year, and best male artist of the year.

It also won three Grammy Awards for this year’s song, best pop group, and best alternative album.

The following year he made a world tour where he visited several countries in Europe and the Middle East, as well as Korea, Japan and Australia.

Meanwhile, Gotye created his own record label and worked as a drummer and singer in the band “The Basics,” which released an album in 2014.

The following year, the band released their second album, but then it was made completely silent by the popular singer-songwriter.

Launch the song for free

One of the things fans could have been more excited about after his sudden absence was that the hit song “Somebody That I Used To Know,” which was released on YouTube, was released ad-free. So the artist has made very little money compared to what he could have done with one of the best hits in the world.

According to Digital Music News, the artist may have earned millions of dollars in the song, which at the time of writing had more than a billion views, if he had chosen to place an advertisement.

Gotye also has no advertising revenue on any of the other songs from his previous album. However, the reason must have been a conscious choice on Gotye’s part:

“I am not interested in selling my music,” he told News Limited last August, replayed by the site.

– That is why I have not placed ads on my YouTube channel, which for many is very strange in today’s society. But it’s a choice you can make, and that’s why I’m with all the music.

– Advertising asks for our attention wherever we are in the world. If you can do something that interests you and others are concerned too, keep it away from the world where it is about “hey, come buy this,” he continued.

Cryptic message to fans

Three years after “Someone I Used to Know” topped the charts, Gotye released an amazing message to fans that he would never release more music under his own name again.

– Or maybe it will. I’m not quite sure at the moment. It involves many coincidences, he wrote at the time, and continued:

– As, among other things, the constantly changing human capacity for sound perception. If the world is noisier than it is today and cases of early deafness are increasing at the same rate, as I launch my masterpiece in a format that requires amplification of sound waves through some form of reproductive technology audio to get attention, some will listen to that then?

Create music for others.

On Instagram, it seems that the artist prefers a more relaxed life.

However, it hasn’t completely shaken up the music, as he described in his cryptic message to fans almost five years ago.

according Lad Bible has chosen to dedicate its creative musical intelligence to preserve the legacy of the well-known Jean-Jacques Perrey, the pioneer of electronic music.

Along with Gershon Kingsley, Perrey had great success as one of the first in electronic music. Known for songs like “Baroque Hoedown” and Spooks in Space, the duo has inspired the music and television series of “The Beastie Boys”, “Disney”, “The Simpsons” and “South Park”.

According to the website, Gotye was introduced to the famous music pioneer about five years ago and has since taken on the task of continuing the music.

Gotye then bought two ondiolins, two classic electronic keyboards used by Perrey, and started “The Ondioline Orchestra” in New York.

– You can achieve an incredible variety of sounds on the ondiolin. The unique mechanism allows it to make highly sensitive sounds with a musical ability not found in many other electronic instruments, he said in an interview with Loose leaves two years ago.

Among other things, Gotye organized two concerts with “The Ondioline Orchestra” which he dedicated to Perrey. Perrey initially had plans to travel from Switzerland, from where he is, to Brooklyn to see the concert, but left before that time.

Still, Gotye has continued to produce more Perrey music, and according to Instagram, there seem to be other musical projects underway.
