On Wednesday, the Norwegian esports federation confirmed that they had acquired gaming company ComeOn as the new main sponsor for two years.
The collaboration prompted the Norwegian Sports Federation to respond:
“The Sports Council has unanimously emphasized Norwegian sports support for the Norwegian game model and Norsk Tipping. The agreement that has been concluded will make future cooperation with the Norwegian electronic sports federation impossible, ”said a press release.
The deal created the environment in the eSports environment precisely because it closed the door to a collaboration between the Norwegian eSports Association and the Sports Association.
The gaming company has ended its sponsorship with the Norwegian esports association with immediate effect.
In the same press release, ComeOn claims that the Norwegian Sports Federation has threatened clubs with expiration of tip funds and VAT compensation if they did not opt for the eSports association.
The Sports Association believes this is wrong.
– The Sports Association does not decide on the distribution of VAT compensation or on the use of play equipment, says Secretary General Karen Kvalevåg of the Norwegian Sports Federation and adds;
– What NIF has stated is that a sports team that is a member of a national federation that has signed an agreement with a foreign betting company cannot simultaneously be a member of the Norwegian Sports Federation, explains Kvalevåg.

A press release from the Norwegian Sports Federation on Sunday says:
“A betting agreement between the Norwegian eSports Federation and a foreign betting company means that eSports groups of sports teams can still contribute to both the organization and development of the eSports service nationwide.”
– Our “support system” of sports councils, sports circles and special associations supports clubs that want to play electronic sports. Our job is to create better sports teams, and for those clubs that offer eSports, this is naturally part of what should be supported, Kvalevåg concludes.
As early as 2018, the Norwegian Sports Federation began to look more closely at the possibility of cooperation with the eSports community. Last Wednesday, the secretary general of the electronic sports federation, Jack Holand, reiterated Dagbladet, a desire to be under the wings of the Sports Federation in 2021.
