Andre Harrel, who has been crucial in the careers of several of the best hip hop and R&B artists in the 1980s and 1990s, is dead. He turned 59 years old.
The director Roma Khanna of the television network Revolt Media & TV confirms the death, which according to the Los Angeles Times was on Friday.
– Everyone in the Revolt family is crushed by the loss of our friend, mentor, and assistant principal. Andre’s impact on hip hop, culture and all of us personally has been limitless and profound. May he rest in peace, Khanna said in a statement, replayed by CNN.
Harrel was a music and record producer, as well as a composer and rapper. Known for his important work in the hip hop and R&B industry in the United States in the late 1980s and 1990s, he has been instrumental in the careers of leading genre artists, such as Mary J. Blige and Heavy D.
Harrel is particularly known for his close collaboration with Sean John Combs, known by the name of P. Diddy, who has been a mentor and producer.
– Andre Harrel was the one who influenced me the most, and I don’t know if that will change at any time, Diddy said in a previous interview with HipHollywood, played by the AP news agency.

Harrel founded the Uptown Records label in 1986. Among the artists who have partnered with the company are Notorious B.I.G., Heavy D & The Boyz, Father MC, Mary J. Blige, and Jodeci.
Several world-renowned artists have announced their condolences on social media over the weekend.

– He signed and guided so many great artists, contributed to so much good music and helped shape the culture.
Mariah Carey has also tweeted an emotional and emoji-filled farewell:
“My heart is broken and I can’t stop crying,” he writes.
Senator Kamala Harris also went to the keys and paid tribute to the late king of hip hop:
– A tragic loss for the music industry and for all of us. Andre’s genius paved the way for many of the kings and queens of hip hop and R&B. My love is for his family and friends during this difficult time, Harris writes on Twitter.
The cause of death is currently unknown.
