The spring 2016 reveal revealed how criminals and wealthy people around the world used tax havens and uncovered cases of tax evasion, corruption and money laundering, where Mossack Fonseca was the centerpiece.

Nikolai Tangen, the head of the oil fund, has also used the services of the law firm, writes Klassekampen.

For ten years, one of Tang’s companies used the law firm to manage the crew on their 115-foot luxury sailboat. The ship is now registered with a company in the UK, but was previously owned by a company in the Isle of Man tax haven. The crew of the ship is managed by the company Nikata Marine Limited, registered in the British Virgin Islands and It is this company that Mossack Fonseca used when it was established in 2006.

Tangen confirms the information and says that the client’s relationship with the law firm ended in 2016. In an email, he writes that he did not know that Mossack Fonseca was used to establish the company before the Class Struggle reported it, explaining that such organization of the ship and crew is an “industry standard made for administrative simplicity”.

Tangen writes that he will now look for other solutions to hire crew for the sailboat.
