TV 2 has spoken with the victim’s family and publishes names and images with their consent.
The murder took place on Thursday October 15 in the Kharian district of Pakistan.
So far, two people have been arrested in the case and several are wanted.
TV 2 knows that both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kripos quickly connected. According to the Pakistani police, the motive should be the desire to hand over the properties to the victim.
– The Foreign Service is aware that a Norwegian citizen has died in Pakistan. Out of consideration of the duty of confidentiality, we cannot comment further on the case, says press officer Guri Solberg at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to TV 2.
She won’t confirm it’s murder.
The arrested wife
According to TV 2, the 80-year-old man was stabbed several times with a knife.
He found the friend murdered; I was afraid the killer was in the apartment
Fazal Dad Chaudhry came to Norway in 1970. After his wife died of cancer in 2000, he lived long in Pakistan. Six years later, he remarried a Pakistani woman.
She is the one who has now been arrested and charged with the murder. Her son from a previous marriage has also been arrested, while her nephew is wanted and released.
TV 2 has spoken with the victim’s son, Shabaz Dad Chaudhry. He is the head coach and sports director of tennis Nesøya IL.
The shock message
Chaudhry received the surprise message at 7.15pm last Thursday.
– I was standing on the tennis court and got a phone call. I didn’t get it because I had Nesøya training with the men’s team. Then he called again and then it was my older brother who called. He was completely in shock and asked me if that was true. Is that true? He repeated. He was completely unconscious. So I said, what do you mean? What happened? And then he told him that someone had killed dad, he says dad to TV 2.
He and the entire family traveled from Bærum to Pakistan the next day. There they learned that it was their father’s new wife who had been detained by the police.
Thousands at the funeral
The motive for the murder must have been inheritance and property, according to the indictment.
– We are completely in shock. We do not know what happened and why she and her conspirators did this. Our father was the nicest man in the world. He was highly respected in the area and known for donating a lot of money to the poor. There were thousands of people at his funeral, Dad says.
Now he hopes that the Norwegian authorities can pressure the Pakistani police to have all the culprits caught and prosecuted.
– I have lived in Norway most of my life and I do not know the Pakistani judiciary. I hope the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will help us find out what has happened. Here we feel very lonely and worried, says the victim’s son.
The 80-year-old man leaves three sons and three daughters in Norway.
