The mouthpiece requirements, admission to nightclubs and the stricter rules for gatherings will be set in Drammen starting tomorrow. As of Tuesday, as many as 70 clusters of infections are counted in the city.

The municipal chief physician, John David Johannessen, said during a meeting of the presidency in Drammen that there are currently 70 infection clusters in the city.

– There are some that are linked to each other over time, but there are constantly new groups, says Johansen, who says that the number of groups of infections has increased from 60 the day before.

New rules

Due to the recent increase in infection in Drammen, the municipality is introducing new rules for infection control.

– We clearly have faith in the measures we are implementing, and have discussed whether we should take a softer or a stricter approach. In the process, we have consulted with the national levels, says municipal chief physician Johannessen to VG.

These rules are introduced:

  • Mandatory for the use of masks in public transport, shops and restaurants when you cannot keep one meter away from others.
  • Clubs are not allowed after 22:00.
  • Maximum ten participants in private meetings. Meetings where you cannot meet the distance requirement are prohibited.

– Experience acquired at the national level indicates that this is a reasonable level of action in our situation, says the Drammen municipal chief.

The rules were formally and finally adopted as regulations by the Drammen municipality presidency on Tuesday. They are valid from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Unknown transmission path

According to Chief Physician John David Johannessen, the challenge in Drammen Township is that the increase in infection is not due to individual cases, but to unknown infection routes throughout society.

– It looks like a wave that’s rising, he says.

He says that many have an unknown infection route and a high risk of mass infection incidents.

– The image we see now is what it looks like when multiple eruptions turn into one wave.

Johannessen says that most people get infected at home in private situations and he believes this is typical of transmission routes across the country.

– So the question is how the infection got to the family where it spreads. It must have come from outside, and then often the challenge is mapping where it came from, he explains.
