Nine new corona cases were reported in Sarpsborg on Friday.
The outbreak in the two cities of Østfold has reached 150 infected people. Several hundred people are in quarantine.
The municipality of Fredrikstad states in a press release late Friday that all the new cases appear to be traced back to the Muslim celebration in the Al-Ghadir religious community in Skjeberg. In Sarpsborg, this applies to eight of the nine new cases.
– The figures are very high and that, of course, makes the situation serious. The good news is that we have not yet discovered the spread of infection from the environment to other parts of society. It is also very good that people in the environment take the lead for testing and adhere to quarantine, says municipal chief physician Karianne Jenseg Bergman in Sarpsborg.
Without restrictions
Sofie Lund Danielsen, municipal chief physician, says Fredrikstad municipality will not impose further restrictions on the population as long as there are no signs of increased infection in society. But she asks people to take the recommendations and the rules seriously.
– We must all accept that the coronavirus is as contagious in Fredrikstad as it is in the rest of the world. Many times we do not know who is the carrier of the infection until the virus has spread. Considering that we now have many infected in our district, the probability of getting infected is higher than this summer, says Mayor Jon-Ivar Nygård in the press release.
Due to the outbreak, the municipality is currently under a lot of pressure in central corona, and it may take time to communicate by phone.
Nursing homes and school classes
Among those infected with corona in Fredrikstad is an employee of the Østsiden nursing home. Four employees and nine residents were quarantined. Family members of residents have been notified.
In Sarpsborg, several new school classes will be quarantined as a result of new infected Fridays.
