But in a year in which the business community is hit hard by the crown crisis and gay carriers have to stay home, there has been great excitement about the outcome.

On Sunday night, the preliminary census shows that the TV campaign has raised NOK 215.6 million for its fight against plastic at sea.

The preliminary result is slightly below last year. According to NRK, just over $ 239 million was raised for the Church City mission in 2018, while the result was $ 220 million for CARE last year.

Still, there are no acid mines in WWF.

– We are very satisfied with the result. But not least with the commitment, which has really been absolutely fantastic, says campaign leader Vibecke Østby to Dagbladet.

Østby emphasizes that awareness, knowledge and information are as important as money in this case.

– That in the middle of a pandemic you have managed to generate such an enormous mobilization and awareness, I think it’s fantastic. It has been magical to see the great participation, especially among children and young people.

As an example, Østby points out that the Byåsen school in Trondheim has raised more than 200,000 crowns. At the same time, the business community has also contributed large sums, and several municipalities have set fundraising records.

The funds raised go to measures in Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand.

Østby emphasizes to Dagbladet that the final result of this year’s television campaign will not be ready until mid-December.

Boycott

Earlier this week, Council Secretary Erik Østby explained that this year’s circumstances make the outcome of the television campaign somewhat more uncertain.

– We have 100,000 weapon bearers who stay at home, who do not knock on the doors of 2.3 million homes. There is no question that this meeting at the door is important, Skarrud told Dagbladet.

On Wednesday evening, the collection result was on par with the result at the same time in 2018 and 2019.

In addition to the challenges related to the crown, WWF as a recipient has generated controversy.

32 municipalities chose to boycott the action, either by not establishing a municipal committee or by not making a municipal contribution.

The reason is WWF’s position on the predator debate.

– We think it is a shame that someone has chosen to boycott this year’s action and with this opportunity for citizens to be part of the great community that invites television action, but they wholeheartedly want to return next year, Østby said to Dagbladet about the case.
