The Mark 8 Volkswagen Golf has arrived, and it brings refreshing aesthetics and performance to the table. While the German automaker has wrapped up the new Volkswagen Golf GTI, the Golf R hasn’t been seen in the meat until recently, and Automotive mic Detective footage of hatchback firing around Nerburging Nordsleaf has been obtained.
As the brazen exterior looks very similar to its front-wheel-drive counterpart, many differences remain under the skin – as expected, R signals all-wheel drive and more power. With four powered wheels, the Grant GTI is rumored to range from 245 hp (182 kW) to 328 horsepower (244 kW).

Performance figures are still up in the air, but it looks like it will be powered by an operated version of the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from GTI. With over 300 hp, rumors indicate that there will be a dedicated R button to intensify the driving experience, if you feel the need to push it to the limit. It remains to be confirmed, but one thing we can be sure of is external.
Surprisingly, the difference between this car and its front wheel-drive sibling is not incredibly significant, but it also has bits and pieces that set the two apart; Components such as agro roof spoiler, quad exhaust exits, new diffuser and massage side skirt. Like many previous examples of this vehicle, it receives marginal design tweaks to make it aggressive aesthetic.
Information about the release date of the Golf R is scattered, but the interior still has a roll-cage, we’ll bet the general public can get their hands on it before the vehicle gets some tweaks. Economics aside, it is clear that Volkswagen has re-ignited under its all-wheel-drive performance hatchback.
