DC has finally publicly spoken out about the major changes within its organization that were revealed earlier this week, but one thing that never changes at DC is its line-up that is heavy with Batman titles.
Although the dominant part of a comic book that will confirm publisher Jim Lee with a 20-25% contract (including several cancellations in November), the publisher just announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) a new Batman-limited series written by 12 years and Slave Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley.
Although light on details, Lee called it a limited series that “will have an enormous impact on the rest of the line.”
Batman- or Batman-related characters appear in more than 20 comic book titles in November 2020 solicitations.
This will also be another DC project for Ridley. His long-standing adult readers The Other History of the DC Universe were just added to DC’s schedule for a November 2020 debut, after they were originally announced in 2018.
This five-issue series refreshes iconic moments from DC history, and explores them through the eyes of DC superheroes representing traditional disenfranchise groups, such as Black Lightning.
Lee also confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that the even longer star-studded return of Milestone – a full label focus on underrepresented heroes and creators – is still in the works.
Original co-founder Milestone Comics Denys Cowan recently updated readers on the upcoming return of the imprint via DC, a plan that was first announced at the 2015 Comic-Con International: San Diego, and which was delayed by a following lawsuit that Cowan says has now “resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.”
DC tells Newsarama more information about Ridley’s new Batman series will be unveiled next week at its Legacy of the Bat panel at DC FanDome.
