On Tuesday, the company said it would offer its new Covid-19 vaccine to its own employees, contractors and board members, adding that workers involved in making and delivering the vaccine would be given an extra level of protection.

The Cambridge, Mass., Company, which has about 1,200 employees, said the program required a small amount of vaccine, which Moderna said would help U.S. Is different from the millions of doses given to the government.

Moderna has said he plans to return to the U.S. by the end of this month. It is expected to deliver about 20 million doses for use and about 200 million doses by mid-2021. The federal government has purchased doses and monitored their distribution.

The company’s new policy allows some people who are not in the high-priority groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to be vaccinated. The CDC said the first people who should receive a limited initial supply of available vaccine doses are health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities, followed by those over 75 and some essential workers such as police officers and manufacturing workers.

A Moderna spokesman said the policy would “help ensure ongoing operations and vaccine production in the face of the epidemic.”

U.S. After the Food and Drug Administration authorized the immediate use of the Moderna vaccine in adults this month, a large study showed that it is very effective against Covid-19 disease. Millions of doses have been distributed at sites around the U.S. last week. Last week, federal health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

The company said that under its new policy it would also vaccinate adult members of its workers’ households to reduce the risk of absence and disruption due to a family member’s covid-19 infection. The company makes vaccination voluntary and confidential and covers the cost.

Moderna said it has notified appropriate health officials about the program and will inspect and report information about vaccinations required under FDA authorization.

Moder officials have previously said they have taken steps to reduce the risk of the virus in workers, including the need for personal protective equipment for those working in its facilities, and some employees working from home.
