Since its launch, Microsoft Edge has proven the division to say the least. But regardless of whether you hate it or love it, the browser is here to stay on your Windows 10 PC.
Even though Statista claims that Edge has only 1.9% of the web browser market, Microsoft says you have to live with it, like some far in the corner you forgot you bought (and let die ).
On an Edge Support page posted on Wednesday (August 5), Microsoft announced that this new Edge (which replaced the older, unsuccessful version) will be sent to all users and that you will not receive this new Edge can lose.
Specifically, Microsoft stated that we will not be given the option to remove the Chromium Edge, “if using the legacy version of Microsoft Edge,” because this new version is “included in a Windows system update.”
Microsoft, for its part, has apparently made a slow, stiff and accurate release of Chromium Edge, making it something choose download first. Now the app is delivered via Windows 10 updates, and can not be uninstalled.
Uninstall Microsoft Edge (type)
Of course, because everyone loves to break the rules and snub their noses at authority, our sister site Tech Radar shared a user-level power solution to rip Edge to its roots. Of course, because these steps use the Command Prompt, I will reiterate that there is some risk involved.
While this may work first, there’s no telling if it’s causing a problem in a future Windows 10 update, or if Microsoft will find its way into this solution, to get your Edge back. That’s the thing about using a computer – you’re playing a game with someone else’s rules, and if Microsoft wants you to have Edge, this can turn into a seasonal cat and mouse game.
However, here are the steps you need to take, and a reminder – when you play in the Command Prompt – make sure you create your data if you make a mistake. We can not play technical support with your problems.
- Navigate to C: Program Files (x86) Microsoft Edge Application
- Select the current version number
- Locate setup.exe
- Navigate to the file path within Command Prompt
- Execute the following command: setup.exe – uninstall – system-level –verbose-logging – force-uninstall
The PCs in my apartment will continue to have Edge on them, as I feel that Microsoft’s fighting their game of required software is more trouble than it’s worth. At least you can delete Candy Crush Soda Saga and other bloatware on Windows 10 PCs.
That said, for most of us, Chromium Edge is here to stay (“forever-forever” as Andre 3000 would say).
