Metallica to air ’06 Show with full performance ‘Master of Puppets’

Metallica will broadcast its concert on June 6, 2006, or 6/6/06, for those who want to be particularly metallic, in Berlin for the next installment of their #MetallicaMondays series.

The show will premiere on the band’s YouTube page on July 20 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET, and will then be available for viewing on demand.

While the concert date of 6/6/06 would be enough to highlight any Metallica show, the band, perhaps in honor of the occasion, made the most of that night in Berlin. The show took place right in the middle of Metallica’s Escape From the Studio hike, during which they had been celebrating the 20th anniversary of Puppeteer playing the album in its entirety on selected dates. Metallica not only played everything Puppeteer that night, but they also released a new song, with the extremely appropriate title “The New Song”.

At that time, three years had passed since Metallica’s last album, San ira, and “The New Song” marked their first piece of new music since then. However, after the Berlin show, they would play “The New Song” just three more times, and it didn’t appear on the song list for their next album, 2008. Magnetic death. (Later, on the Escape From the Studio Tour, Metallica would debut with another new song, with the equally appropriate title “The Other New Song”).
