McConnell: GOP-controlled Senate sets up a ‘firewall’ against Pelosi’s agenda

Like President TrumpDonald John The Memo: Trump Uses Convention to Focus on Major States Conway Hots Trump as ‘Women’s Champion’ Former ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Star Trace Adkins Sings at GOP Congress MORE, “we will not be bullied by a liberal media that destroys the institutions of America,” McConnell said during taped remarks delivered last night by the virtual Republican National Convention.

‘The stakes have never been higher. That is why I ask you to support Republican Senate candidates across the country and to re-elect my friend, President Donald Trump, “he added.

McConnell outlined a list of articles he believes Democrats will try to pass by if they gain control of the Senate, including allowing Washington, DC to become a state.

“They want to codify all of this by making the swamp itself – Washington, DC – the 51st state of America. With two more Liberal senators, we can not undo the damage they have done, ‘he said.

McConnell added that Democrats “want to tell you what kind of car you can drive, what sources of information are reliable, and even how many burgers you can eat.”

The line appeared to be a veiled swipe at the Green New Deal proposal for climate change, which Republicans have claimed would lead to restrictions on meat, as it calls for the removal of greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector as much as technological aid is.

Republicans are fighting to hang on to the Senate majority in November, after regaining control of the House in 2014. They have a margin of 53-47, which means Democrats should get a net total of either three seats and the White House as four seats for a straight majority.

McConnell has previously warned that he considers roughly eight seats of the Senate to be battlefield races, and that the fight for the majority “could go either way”. Political handicappers see Democrats gaining momentum to get the Senate back.

While Republicans are considered likely Sen. Defeating Doug Jones (D-Ala.), Republicans defend seats in several close races, including Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Montana and North Carolina. McConnell is running for a seventh term and is seen as the favorite to win, although some polls have indicated the race may be close.

McConnell has tied himself closely to Trump, despite some high-profile fights since 2016 and very different personalities. The GOP leader is known for being strict and strategic, while the president intervenes on any topic, sometimes interrupting the message of his administration.

McConnell has also positioned Senate Republicans, and himself as a majority leader, to be a “grime reaper” for progressive policies, even if Democrats hold the House and win the White House.

During his speech Thursday night, McConnell characterized Democrats as out of touch with Central America, claiming they considered it a ‘land of overflows’. Democrats “prefer that we all stay quiet in overland country and let them decide how we should live our lives. They want to tell you when you can go to work. If your kids can go to school. They want to tax your job of existence, and then send you a government check for unemployment, “McConnell said.

“They want to remove the police and take away your rights for second amendment. … They want to sue the Supreme Court with liberals who intend to forget our constitutional rights,” he added.

Republicans have strongly lied in ‘culture canceling’ and characterizing Democrats as anti-law enforcement during their four-day convention. Although some progressives have called for ignoring police funding, Democrats in Congress, including Pelosi, as well as Democratic presidential candidates Joe BidenJoe Biden The memo: Trump uses convention to target key states Pence condemns Kenosha violence, supports police in convention speech Biden praises Milwaukee Bucks response to Jacob Blake shoots MORE, sought to close those talks earlier this year.

McConnell’s decision to highlight what could prevent a GOP – controlled Senate from happening comes after Schumer, who would become the majority leader if Democrats win the Senate, used his party’s convention last week to highlight what legislation they want to pass if they are the majority.

Schumer added Thursday night in a tweet that McConnell “is the self-proclaimed ‘Grim Reaper’.”

“And he has buried more than 400 bills in his Senate Legislative Cemetery on everything from health care to voting rights,” Schumer added.
