On the Thursday night episode (August 13) of The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah and his correspondent Dulcé Sloan discussed sexism, mainly because it relates to coverage of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s vice president running mate.
However, the duo soon recognized that sexism goes beyond politics, noting the double standard of talking about noisy topics in music. Still in the controversy over Cardi B and the new collaboration “WAP”, Megan Thee Stallion, Noah asked if men would be as overzealous if the song was not hip-hop.
“We do not live in a society that is comfortable with women flaming their sexuality,” Sloan replied. “It does not matter if it is rap as country. I bet it was a country music star who sang the same lyrics, all these men would still be overwhelmed.”
To further prove their point, Sloan called on country star Margo Price to put an acoustic, dulcet spin on the track (keeping the lyrics exactly as they are). Check it out below, beginning with the six minute mark.
