Thanks to Deadline-Day Scramble, Manchester United have finally addressed the long-term depth issues in Ole Gunnar Solskar’s squad.
Edinson Cavani, Alex Tellis and Fesundo Palestri all joined Donnie van de Beek for new recruits at Old Trafford, while the club also agreed a deal to sign exciting Atlanta winger Amad Diallo in January.
However, much of the conversation in United’s transfer business focused on the club’s failure to land top target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
That, coupled with Tottenham Hotspur’s 6-1 home defeat, adds to the sadness surrounding the Theater of Dreams.
If things continue that way, there could be a lot more commings and gore coming in January.
With that in mind, here are three notable transfer stories involving the Red Devils.
Pogba accepted Real Madrid’s ‘dream’
United midfielder Paul Pogba has admitted that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid.
The Frenchman has been regularly involved in big money moves in the Spanish capital for years and was unable to hide his desire to move to Los Blancos when asked about a possible move to the Bernabeu.
During a press conference with the French national team on Thursday, he said that all footballers would choose to play for Real Madrid.
“It’s a dream for me, why not one day?” I am in Manchester and I love my club. I play in Manchester, I have fun and I want to do everything I can to put the club where it deserves.
“I will give everything to Maxim like my teammates.”
Pogba’s United contract expires in 2021 and the 27-year-old claims there has been no discussion of expansion.
“No one told me anything. I didn’t talk [United executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward. We haven’t talked about any new deals.
“Right now, I’m in Manchester and I’m focused on getting back to my best form.
“I think there will come a moment when the club will come and talk to me and offer me something or not.”
Holland and Sancho are United’s top targets
Despite United’s failure to sign any players in the last two transfer windows, Erling Holland and Jadon Sancho are still the top two goalscorers for the Soulscareer. ESPN .
United withdrew from the Netherlands in January as Norwegian striker Borosia Dortmund opted out before Sanchez’s unsuccessful retreat, after the Bundesliga counterpart in Dortmund refused to meet the asking price of his Bundesliga counterpart.
Despite this, Solskar sees both players as ideal candidates for his long-term plans.
Holland have been a sensation with Dortmund, scoring 21 times in 23 games, while Sanchez is expected to attract interest from Europe’s top club next summer if he continues his superb form in Germany.
Kavani had conversations with Real and Juve before joining United
According to EDSN, Edinson Cavani had talks with Real Madrid and Juventus before deciding to join United on Deadline Day.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan also became interested in Benfica after leaving Paris Saint-Germain to become a free agent.
Juve reports that the former Napoli star’s offer of a two-year deal with a salary of C8 million was only to be turned down by Cavani, while the striker is said to have asked for a three-year contract worth m 9m a year.
Cavani eventually joined United with the option of a second deal in a year.
He has undergone solitary training in Carrington in line with the UK’s coronavirus protocol since arriving from Paris with his last competitive appearance back in March.
Cavani scored 200 goals in 301 games for PSG, helping him win six Ligue 1 titles during his time in the French capital.
