At 12:30 p.m., a Scottsdale police officer was walking in the area when he heard what sounded like a muffled call for help.

The officer found the voice coming from a pipe helping to support one of the water slides and officers were able to communicate with the victim – a 32-year-old man said a transient – but they lost the communication with him at 2 p.m.

Officers say the reported person was walking over a high hull and was on the slide when he stepped into the pipe structure and got stuck.

The Maricopa County medical examiner will determine how the man died.

The incident is being investigated and the Aquatic Centers are closed.
