Kaunas “Žalgiris” (3-0) remain undefeated in the Euroleague. Martin Schiller’s troop in the third away game 75:69 (19:19, 20:14, 23:27, 13: 9) dramatically broke the Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade (1-2).

Kaunas started the Euroleague season with three trips in a row and won in every match: in addition to the Serbian club, they defeated Piraeus Olympiacos and the Moscow region Chimki.
In the fourth quarter, Augustine Rubitas scored a double point, Rokas Jokubaitis added a three points and 7 minutes and 18 seconds before the end of the match, Žalgiris led by 7 points (69:62).
Then both teams did not score for almost 5 minutes, until Crvena Zvezda finally scored five points without responding and came close to 2 points with 2 minutes remaining (67:69).
With one minute to go, Langston Hall had a chance to equalize, but did not seize the opportunity. Then Lukas Lekavičius scored two penalties and, after a failed attack by the hosts, Marius Grigonis added two more shots from the penalty line (73:67).
Finally, Nigel Hayes also scored two penalties and the Belgrade club’s points did not change the situation in the final seconds.
Lukas Lekavičius competed with greater efficiency and utility in the ranks of “Žalgiris”, who missed a single shot and scored 16 points (4/4 doubles, 2/3 trit., 2/2 penalties), made 4 assists, caused 6 fouls and accumulated 20 utility scores.
Rokas Jokubaitis scored 9 points (3/6 doubles, 1/4 trit.) In almost 30 minutes, he bounced 6 balls and added 5 assists. He achieved personal records for minutes played and rebounds in the Euroleague.
Kaunas stopped Jordan Loyd, who posted a 22.5-point performance in the first two games and was unbeatable in the Euroleague. The defender scored 19 points, but just 6 shots of 15 (40 percent) of the game.
“Žalgiris” surpassed the rival in rebounds (34 against 23), effective passing (16 against 12) and precision from all positions. Kaunas got 60.6 percent. two points (rivals: 43.6 percent), 37.5 percent. triples (competitors – 28 percent) and 89.5 percent. free throws (opponents – 87.5 percent).
15 errors did not prevent Žalgiris from winning, when the hosts only fumbled the ball 7 times.
Thursday at 8 pm “Žalgiris” will play the first game of the Euroleague at home. Schiller’s troops will host the Anadolu Efes team in Istanbul.
