Martin Schiller’s students fought at home for three quarters 95:76 (19:22, 23:26, 30:19, 23: 9) beat Pasvalys’ Milk Stars (11/8), which was their sixth loss in the last seven games.
Artūras Milaknis did not finish the match due to injury, in the third half he found his opponent with a sore shoulder. Marius Grigonis, meanwhile, played the best game of his career at Betsafe-LKL, scoring 26 points and 36 utility points.
Although the Kaunas team led by Martin Geben sneaked forward in the opening minutes of the match (10: 2), after the break the Pasvalys team took a 9: 0 streak and rushed forward. During the rest of the quarter, they increased their lead to 3 points – 22:19.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Pasvalys team basketball players continued the successful section: Karolis Giedraitis and Jahenns Manigat (33:26) scored points. After two more pitches by K. Giedraitis, “Milk Stars” lead turned into double digits: 41:30. At the end of the first half of the match, the people of Žalgiris melted their deficit a bit – 42:48.
After the break, when the teams returned to the court, the hosts caught up with their opponents (50:50), but A. Milaknis sat on the bench and Nigel Hayes left the field for five personal fouls. The Pasvalys people regained the lead – 50:57, however after a short time, with the momentum started by M. Grigonis, the Žalgiris people tied and weighed the result (62:59). In the fourth quarter, the teams faced Žalgiris with a 72:67 lead.
At the beginning of the last quarter, Marekas Blaževičius (78:69), who scored 6 points in a row and wrote the block to Brankas Mirkovičius, allowed Kaunas residents to feel more secure. M. Grigonis’ triple, after which the hosts accumulated a record advantage in this match (83:71), forced Gediminas Petrauskas to call for a match, but no longer saved the visiting team. The Lithuanian champions no longer slowed down and ended the match winning with a guaranteed lead: 95:76.
