Vilnius “Rytas” midfielder Marekas Blaževičius decided to leave the capital club and play in Kaunas “Žalgiris” next season. Lithuanian champions paid a ransom for the promising 18-year-old.
Kaunas residents officially announced the conclusion of the three-year contract.
“It was a really difficult decision because I was already a foot abroad, but then Robert Javtok called, I had met the coach. It has changed everything to where we are now. I think it will be a good decision,” Blaževičius said, communicating with Žalgiris television crew.
Ryto’s new coach Donaldas Kairys and club management really wanted to see Blaževičius in their ranks, but the player and his representatives decided to take a different path, according to Ryto’s press release.
“We must respect this choice by Blaževičius and his representatives,” said Rolandas Jarutis, CEO of Rytas. – The contract provided for a swap clause and the player took advantage of it. Marek was expected to play an important role next season.
And we are sure that the best conditions for a young player to develop are in the Morning organization. We sincerely wish Marek’s success in his future career as he is a Vilnius basketball student. ”
As Marekas himself told Žalgiris TV, his decision was heavily influenced by the attention shown by the team’s head coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius. The Žalgiris strategist bribed the young basketball player with his opening.
“I was impressed by the human qualities and, above all, the openness. So it is how unrealistic basketball understands and how real an ordinary person is. Perhaps next to the court he looks angry because he is yelling at everyone, but in reality He is a simple and sincere person, ”said the invited player to the Lithuanian men’s basketball team camp.
Blaževičius crossed the entire Rytas organization pyramid and became a player for the Vilnius core team.
In 2018 Blaževičius and the Rytas youth team became the winners of the Euroleague youth tournament.
